Day 5 (Jonah) Finishing and Sanding the Boxes

Today was the last day for the box project! As much as I enjoyed working on my box, I am excited to move on to my wall boards. I came in this morning and unclamped my box from the table, and after removing the tape, it was time to start sanding. After helping Ryan with some measurements and Router cuts, I headed onto the Tinkeria patio to sand my box. I started off using 220-grit sandpaper because the electric sanders had been in use for a while. Once I got one, it took time to get used to the vibrating and numbness in my hand until I realized that I was holding it wrong. After that readjustment, everything went smoothly. Before lunch, we all worked as a team to cut the plywood we obtained yesterday. One person would push the wood through the table saw, and one would guide it with the saw fence, and one or two would receive the wood. After a few cuts, we divided the Birch plywood for Leo, and I had my 2 Walnut Boards for my project, which were heavier than predicted. After a lengthy lunch break, we finished sanding and prepared to add finishing oil to the boxes. Finishing oil is used to add a small protective layer to wood and can give it a nicer appearance. This did not take long, and we all sat around a table, rubbing oil into the grain of the boxes and talking among ourselves. After another short break, I cut the nine-foot board I was sharing with Kamilla in half so we would each have our project material. Mr. Grisbee also demonstrated the Miter Saw. After getting my wood, I cut the 4-foot board into 3/4 inch wide sticks with the table saw. I am very excited to start work on my wall boards next week, as they should be more interesting than the boxes. Overall, today was productive and so was the week as a whole. So far, this M-Term is Challenging but enjoyable.
