The plan for today was to sand the boxes and then apply the first layer of varnish so that they would be close to done. It was to be a very simple day. In the morning, I started with sanding my boxes by hand, going up to 220-grit sandpaper. After I was done with the insides, I was able to move on to the outsides, for which I was able to use a powered sander (this was much easier than doing it by hand). Once we were all done sanding our boxes, we teamed up to cut the plywood for everyone. This process was rather annoying because the plywood was so large and hard to push through the saw. After we finished cutting the plywood, we had a longer than usual lunch break. After lunch, everyone added the first layer of finishing oil to their boxes. I had to add the epoxy between the crack in the bottom of my box. This turned out very well. After applying the epoxy I was able to start varnishing my box. After that was done, I cut my plywood to length. This first week was very enjoyable, and I feel that the process of making my own bookshelf will be more challenging than the box, but even more enjoyable.
